  • CPR/AED
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning, in which a person has stopped breathing. When the heart stops, lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few short minutes and cause death within 8 to 10 minutes. CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, nearly half a million Americans die from a cardiac arrest every year and more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year. In the event of a cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can aid is saving a life. However, only about a quarter of Americans say there is an AED at their workplace. Effective CPR and AED care can more than double a person’s chance of survival. A person faced with an emergency such as a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, or choking may be saved if someone at the scene have had the lifesaving skills and techniques that can be acquired through CPR training. Skills include: How to give high-quality chest compressions How to care for conscious and unconscious choking How to deliver ventilations How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) How to provide care until EMS arrives Book Now
